Only you are you, and that’s your superpower.

“Compromise where you can. Where you can’t, don’t. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say ‘No, you move’.”

― Christopher Markus

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to be me. When it’s easy and especially when it’s hard.

My experiences, perspectives, passions, gifts, etc, add up to who I am. This complex united front of all the things that makes me well, me, is my identity.

“Your identity is your most valuable possession. Protect it.” – Elastigirl, The Incredibles

My identity is my superpower.

When I step away from who I am to fit into an expectation that someone has of me, whether it be a decision I should make or something they can’t see me doing. It becomes hard if not impossible, to channel my superpower.

The reason our identities are so powerful is that each and everyone is a one of a kind.

I’ve had seasons where I have let other people shape my identity. I was scared to plant myself like a tree.

The truth of the matter, is those are seasons I’ll never get back. Those seasons are a time I could have spent refining my super skills that I wasted.

But no more. My greatest superpower is being me, and it’s time I plant myself like a tree and practice using my super skills. Anyone going to join me?
