When All Else Fails, Bake Some Cookies

Children, they are angels, right? Well, maybe not. Today the precious little girl I spend a handful of afternoons with was obscenely quiet. She was unwilling to talk. Now, this girl has been a chatterbox for about 2 and 1/2 years now. For her to be quiet was extremely out of character.

After about a 100 failed attempts of suggested activities or talking points, she was unrelenting. I couldn’t get her to talk.

Naturally, I went to the kitchen – because if there is one way to get a kid to talk to you, it’s to do something that makes them curious. As I started piddling around; she quickly became interested in what I was doing.

She jumped in and started helping me. Before I knew it, we were dancing around the kitchen to The Greatest Showman while the first tray was in the oven!

By the time the cookies were cooling, she was unable to stop talking. She had poured every aspect of her day out over a sweet little treat.

So lesson learned, when all else fails, just make some peanut butter cookies.
